about the artist
Lucia Rose is a mixed-media visual artist with a primary focus on drawing & painting. They have experience in ceramic sculpture, collage, photography, digital art, and block printing; a never-ending interest in expanding mediums of image making guides their artistic practice. She practices drawing, painting, design, and photography with the intention of investigating line and contrast and their infinite applications. Exploring topics of the human condition, political, spiritual & emotional, they encourage reflection, introspection, and empathy. This is reflected in her artistic career so far in exhibitions such as The Empathy Project & Sordid Gaze, and her work with CreateCA's Design Advocacy for Arts Education.
Born in San Francisco and raised in Pacifica, Lucia is a Bay Area local. Inspired by their experiences as a nonbinary, queer femme who experiences chronic migraines and PMDD, Lucia was also raised in a family of rock, punk, and heavy metal musicians. These influences helped her to express the unconventional with the intention of visualizing discomforting experiences. Rose's artwork represents how they engage with the world around them—informed by a proximity to Silicon Valley—allowing for the awareness of the tech industry's impacts on local communities, and society at large. They are currently seeking out opportunities that allow her to engage and uplift communities and commissions that bring clients' visions to life.
